Wage Discrimination Bill Passes the Senate

The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 (S.181) passed the Senate on January 22nd and is expected to be considered in the House of Representatives this week.  The House had passed its own version on Jan. 9th  (H.R. 11; same title).

Gov. Richardson Withdraws as Commerce Nominee

Governor Bill Richardson (D, NM) announced yesterday he was withdrawing his name as nominee for Secretary of Commerce in the Obama administration.  This is apparently a response to an ongoing grand jury investigation into “pay to play” allegations against the Richardson administration.
Richardson denies any wrongdoing but says the investigation could take months, delaying the confirmation [...]

Factors Underlying the Decline in Manufacturing Employment – CBO Report

According to the CBO, employment in the manufacturing sector of the U.S. economy declined 22% from the fourth quarter of 2000 through the 3rd quarter of 2008 – these figures preceding the overall economic decline of the 4th quarter.
