Sandia National Laboratories, one of the U.S. Department of Energy national labs, is implementing life-cycle strategies to accelerate the commercialization of lab inventions (also known as “technology transfer’ or “tech transfer”.)
The lab believes a “life-cycle” approach, combined with efforts to engage entrepreneurs early in the process and also by encouraging scientists and engineers to to think about how to fit inventions into the marketplace from the earliest phases of research and development, could improve the speed and success of Sandia’s commercialization efforts. The lab established a new website, https://ip.sandia.gov, that lists technologies available for licensing. Sandia’s efforts reflect a Department of Energy push to re-energize commercialization at DOE labs nationwide.
